NEW YORK The Huffington Post gained the most unique readers among all outlets on a list of top 30 news destinations in October, in the latest monthly data from Nielsen Online. The site grew its uniques year-over-year by a whopping 448% to 8.1 million, and jumped to #18 on the list of top news sites from #20 last month. It had 7.4 million uniques in September.

Almost all the sites on the list showed gains in election campaign-crazed October with a few exceptions, including Gannett newspapers, down 5% to 12.9 million.

CNN edged out Yahoo News for the No. 2 slot in October. Uniques there increased 27% to 38.4 million. Yahoo News was No. 2 in the month of September.
